The Khmer are an ethnic group living along the Thai-Cambodian border; including of Baan Thanongrat, who have a tradition of silk weaving in different styles i.e. Am prom, Ka niew, Samor, Anlusiem and Hol etc. Hol, a twill weave ikat composed of rows of parallel lines, is considered the most sophisticated and most beautiful among all as it may takes up to eleven colors to create its unique design. The word Hol means flow in Khmer. The design of Hol is sometimes called Ngoo Luam , python design, or Bai Pai, bamboo leave design. Hol is usually worn by Khmer women during auspicious occasions such as in ordination ceremonies, wedding and other religious functions.

ชาวไทยเชื้อสายเขมรที่ตั้งถิ่นฐานอยู่ในจังหวัดสุรินทร์ บุริรัมย์และศรีสะเกษมีการทอผ้าไหมหลายชนิด ได้แก่ อัมปรม กะนีร์ สะมอร์ อันลูซีน โสร่งและโฮล ในบรรดาผ้าดังกล่าว ผ้าโฮลถือว่าเป็นผ้าที่มีค่ามากที่สุด เพราะทอยากและมีความสวยงามมาก คำว่า โฮล หมายถึง น้ำไหล แต่ชาวบ้านบางคนบอกว่าลายผ้าโฮลดูคล้ายลายของงูเหลือม บางครั้งจึงเรียกว่า ลายงูเหลือม นับแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน หญิงชาวไทยเชื้อสายเขมรจะนุ่งผ้าโฮลเพื่อออกงานมงคลต่าง ๆ เช่น งานบวช งานแต่งงาน งานประเพณีพิธีกรรมทางศาสนา ฯลฯ
