The ‘Tum’ is a kind of bamboo fishing gear used to trap a species of small migratory catfish (Pangasius macronema), called Pla Yon in Thai. Beginning in April each year, the Pla Yon catfish migrates upstream from the Mekong River all the way to the Mun River. The seasonal migration of this catfish supports an economically important fishery sector in the villages of Ban Kor Tai.
Today, the region faces many challenges: the river, the people, and the environment are all changing. Economic development projects, especially the Pak Mun dam, are reducing the diversity of fish species. These in turn lead to a reduction in the variety of fishing gear and the knowledge of how to make them.

ตุ้ม เป็นเครื่องมือจับปลาที่ทำจากไม้ไผ่ ใช้จับปลายอน เดือนเมษายนของแต่ละปีเป็นฤดูที่ปลายอนจะอพยพจากแม่โขงสู่แม่มูน การจับปลาในช่วงนี้จึงมีบทบาทสำคัญอย่างยิ่งต่อเศรษฐกิจของบ้านค้อใต้ ในทุกวันนี้ แม่น้ำ ผู้คน และสิ่งแวดล้อมเผชิญกับความเปลี่ยนแปลง โครงการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจหลายโครงการ โดยเฉพาะอย่างเขื่อนปากมูล เป็นปัจจัยที่ส่งผลให้สายพันธุ์ปลาลดจำนวนลง และนั่นหมายถึง ประเภทของเครื่องมือจับปลาและความรู้ที่สั่งสมมาก็กำลังสูญหายไปด้วยเช่นกัน
