Decorative cement is an art of making designs from cement to decorate Thai traditional architecture, i.e. temple, ordination hall, stupa. According to archeological evidences, cement decoration could be traced back since Tavaravadi era. Recently, the skillful artisans create various local fantastic cement decorations. There could be divided into 3 techniques: free standing free-hand moulding, bas-relief free-hand moulding and carve plasticine to make cement moulds. Design and stories of cement decoration reflect its beautiful characteristics of Thai fine arts.

ปูนปั้น เป็นงานศิลปะที่สร้างมาจากปูนซีเมนต์ ใช้เพื่อตกแต่งบนงานสถาปัตยกรรมของไทย เช่นอุโบสถ ศาลาการเปรียญ หรือเจดีย์ ตามหลักฐานโบราณคดี งานปูนปั้นมีมาตั้งแต่สมัยทวารวดี ในปัจจุบันช่างที่มีฝีมือที่สืบทอดความรู้จากรุ่นสู่รุ่นได้สร้างสรรค์งานปูนปั้นที่มีความวิจิตรแตกต่างกันไปในแต่ละพื้นถิ่น ปูนปั้นที่เห็นในปัจจุบันมีสามแบบ คือ ปูนปั้นแบบลอยตัว ปูนปั้นสดแบบนูน และการแกะสลักแม่พิมพ์เพื่อใช้ในการหล่อปูนปั้นที่เหมือนกันจำนวนมาก แม้ว่างานปูนปั้นในปัจจุบันจะดูเป็นงานเชิงพาณิชย์ศิลป์ แต่ลวดลายและเรื่องราวที่ปรากฏบนงานปูนปั้นกลับสะท้อนถึงเอกลักษณ์คิลปะที่งดงามหลากหลาย
